Tata Power Commissions 765 kV Transmission Lines in Uttar Pradesh
Filing Summary
Tata Power Company Ltd has commissioned two 765 kV Extra High Voltage transmission corridors in Uttar Pradesh, spanning a total of 574 circuit kilometers. The Mainpuri–Bara line covers 380 circuit kilometers, while the Mainpuri–Unnao line spans 194 circuit kilometers. These corridors are part of the South East UP Power Transmission Company Limited project, acquired by Resurgent Power Ventures Pte. Limited. The project facilitates the evacuation of over 3,000 MW of thermal power, enhancing grid stability. Tata Power now operates 5,312 circuit kilometers of transmission lines, with an additional 1,997 under construction.
Tata Power Company Ltd has successfully commissioned two 765 kV Extra High Voltage transmission corridors in Uttar Pradesh. The Mainpuri–Bara line spans 380 circuit kilometers, and the Mainpuri–Unnao line covers 194 circuit kilometers. These corridors are part of the South East UP Power Transmission Company Limited project, enhancing the power transmission network in the northern region and improving grid reliability across the state.
The project was acquired by Resurgent Power Ventures Pte. Limited, a joint venture involving Tata Power, ICICI Bank, and global investors. The corridors facilitate the evacuation of over 3,000 MW of thermal power generated within Uttar Pradesh. This development significantly improves grid stability and supports the state’s long-term energy security objectives. The project involved the use of over 42,000 metric tonnes of tower steel and 6,900 kilometers of conductor stringing.
The construction of the transmission lines required the completion of more than 100 major crossings, including railway lines, rivers, and existing transmission corridors. The lines traverse forest stretches and were built in compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements. Despite these challenges, the project was completed in line with Tata Power’s operational excellence, quality execution, and stringent safety standards.
With the commissioning of these corridors, Tata Power now operates 5,312 circuit kilometers of transmission lines. An additional 1,997 circuit kilometers are currently under construction. This expansion underscores Tata Power’s role in building and modernizing India’s high-voltage transmission infrastructure, which is critical for sustaining economic growth.
The project was executed under the South East UP Power Transmission Company Limited initiative. The commissioning of these lines marks a significant milestone in the resolution of previously stressed power assets. The project aligns with Tata Power’s benchmarks for operational excellence and reinforces its credentials as a leading transmission infrastructure developer.
Resurgent Power Ventures Pte. Limited is a joint venture led by Tata Power, ICICI Bank, and global investors. The venture focuses on acquiring and resolving stressed power assets, contributing to the stabilization and enhancement of power infrastructure in India.
