Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a subsidiary of Tata Power Company Limited, has commissioned a 300 MW solar power project for NHPC Limited in Bikaner, Rajasthan. The project integrates advanced DCR cells and bifacial modules, designed to optimize energy generation. It supplies clean power to Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), addressing the growing energy demand in the region.
The project involved the installation of approximately 775,000 modules across challenging desert terrain. It is expected to generate approximately 17,230 million units of green electricity over its operational life. The project is anticipated to offset around 13,826,400 tons of COâ‚‚ annually. The plant features high-efficiency solar modules manufactured by TP Solar Limited, Tirunelveli, reinforcing the commitment to domestic manufacturing.
The scope of work included the deployment of advanced technologies such as DCR cells and bifacial DCR modules, precision ramming, and high-performance inverters designed to withstand extreme heat conditions. The project was executed over two and a half years, demonstrating TPREL’s project management and technical capabilities. The project also provided employment to over 300 local workers and promoted local vendor development.
TPREL has commissioned over 4.9 GW of third-party projects, with more than 980 MW delivered in the current financial year. The company’s total renewable utility capacity has reached 11.6 GW, with 5.8 GW operational, comprising 4.7 GW of solar and 1.1 GW of wind energy. An additional 5.8 GW is under various stages of implementation, evenly split between solar and wind projects, expected to be completed in phases over the next 6 to 24 months.
The project was executed by TPREL as the EPC contractor, with NHPC owning the large-scale solar project. The project stands out for its robust engineering and innovative execution in one of India’s most challenging terrains.
