SJVN Limited has announced the inauguration of its 70 MW Dhubri Solar Power Project in Assam. The project was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Assam, Sh. Himanta Biswa Sarma, on January 15, 2026. The event was attended by various officials, including Sh. Prasanta Phukan, Minister of Power, Assam, and Sh. Bhupendra Gupta, Chairman & Managing Director of SJVN.
The solar power project has been developed by SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL) on 330 acres of land provided by Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) on a 28-year lease. The project was awarded to SGEL by APDCL on February 16, 2023, through a tariff-based competitive bidding process at a tariff of Rs.3.92 per unit. The EPC cost of the project is Rs.367 crore.
The project is designed to generate 141 million units of electricity in its first year, with a Capacity Utilization Factor (CUF) of 23%. Over a period of 25 years, it is estimated to generate approximately 3,230 million units of electricity. The project is expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 1,58,270 tonnes.
This is the first large-scale solar project in Assam and marks SJVN’s first operational project in the North Eastern Region. The foundation stone was laid virtually by the Prime Minister of India on March 4, 2024.
