Maruti Suzuki Announces Nationwide EV Charging Network Expansion

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has announced a strategic initiative to expand its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across India. The company has signed collaboration agreements with 13 leading Charge Point Operators (CPOs) and aggregators. This move is part of Maruti Suzuki’s efforts to establish a robust EV ecosystem, which includes over 2,000 exclusive charging points accessible through its nationwide dealer network. The initiative also aims to enable more than 100,000 public charging points by 2030, enhancing the accessibility of EV charging facilities across the country.

The financial terms of the agreements with the CPOs were not disclosed in the filing. However, the collaboration is expected to involve significant investment in infrastructure development to support the establishment of a comprehensive charging network. The initiative is part of Maruti Suzuki’s broader strategy to support the adoption of electric mobility in India, aligning with the company’s long-term vision for sustainable transportation solutions.

The operational scope of this initiative includes the development of a digital platform for EV charging needs, which covers both home and public charging. The platform integrates an end-to-end payment journey, facilitating seamless transactions for users. Maruti Suzuki’s ‘e for me’ app will serve as a single platform for locating and using charging points, managing home chargers, and processing payments through UPI or ‘Maruti Suzuki Money’, powered by Razorpay. The app also offers features such as remote management of smart home chargers and integration with in-car infotainment systems for a seamless user experience.

The timeline for the implementation of this charging network expansion is set to culminate by 2030, with the establishment of over 100,000 public charging points. The initial phase includes the deployment of more than 2,000 exclusive Maruti Suzuki charging points, which are already accessible through the company’s extensive dealer network. The company has also activated over 1,500 EV-ready service workshops across 1,100 cities to support after-sales requirements and enhance the EV ownership experience.

The parties involved in this initiative include Maruti Suzuki and 13 CPOs and aggregators. Key figures from Maruti Suzuki, such as Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, and Mr. Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, have been instrumental in driving this collaboration. The CPOs involved in the agreements include prominent names such as goEgo, IOCL, Chargezone, Adani TotalEnergies E-mobility, and others, each playing a crucial role in expanding the charging infrastructure.
