The 5.56 x 45 mm CQB Carbine is an indigenously designed, developed, and manufactured (IDDM) firearm. It is a result of collaboration between the Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE), DRDO, and Bharat Forge Ltd., Pune. This contract is part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission, which focuses on enhancing domestic production capabilities in defense.

BFL, along with its wholly-owned defense subsidiary Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited (KSSL), is committed to equipping the Indian Armed Forces with advanced defense equipment manufactured in India. This initiative supports the government’s push for self-reliance in defense manufacturing.

The contract represents the largest small arms order secured by Bharat Forge from the Indian MoD, highlighting the company’s capabilities in defense manufacturing and its strategic role in national defense initiatives.
