Mr. Sairam takes over from Mr. Sanoj Kumar Jha, who held the interim position since 1 November 2025, following the retirement of Mr. P M Prasad on 31 October 2025.
Before assuming his new role, Mr. Sairam served as the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Northern Coalfields Limited, a coal-producing subsidiary of CIL. His career spans over three and a half decades in the coal mining industry, with expertise in coal mine operations, planning, logistics, and regulatory affairs. Mr. Sairam holds a degree in mining engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Raipur, and an MBA in Energy Management from NTPC School of Business.
In his new capacity, Mr. Sairam emphasized the importance of increasing coal production and improving the quality of coal supplies to meet the country’s energy demands. He also highlighted CIL‘s initiatives to align with changing business scenarios and energy sector dynamics. These initiatives include ventures into solar power, critical mineral acquisitions, and coal gasification, alongside a commitment to sustainable mining practices.
