L&T Energy Green Tech and John Cockerill Energy Forge New Path in Green Power Innovations
In a significant move to advance renewable energy solutions, L&T Energy Green Tech Limited (LTEGL), a subsidiary of L&T, has signed an MoU with John Cockerill Energy. The agreement sets the stage for both companies to jointly explore cutting-edge technologies in Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) and Thermal Energy Storage (TES).
LTEGL is known for its comprehensive approach to sustainable energy, covering everything from green hydrogen and its derivatives to electrolyser manufacturing, with a focus on development, manufacturing, and EPC services. This strategic collaboration will leverage LTEGL’s robust, end-to-end expertise and John Cockerill’s extensive experience—spanning over two centuries—in driving energy transition through innovative solutions. The latter is recognized for its ability to adapt technologies such as heat recovery steam generators, advanced solar thermal receivers, and integrated units for electricity management to meet the diverse needs of industrial and energy sectors.
The primary goal of the MoU is to identify and develop collaborative opportunities in manufacturing, component supply, and engineering solutions that are crucial for the successful deployment of CSP and TES projects. Mr. Subramanian Sarma, Whole-time Director & President (Energy) at L&T, highlighted the importance of ensuring round-the-clock renewable power as a cornerstone for the global energy transition. He noted that partnering with John Cockerill marks a pivotal step, combining L&T’s comprehensive capabilities with the international leader’s expertise.
Mr. Thomas Bohner, CEO of John Cockerill Energy, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, emphasizing its potential to transform India’s manufacturing landscape by making it more sustainable and efficient. He pointed out that the company’s CSP and TES technologies, already demonstrated in projects across the UAE, China, Chile, and South Africa, are set to drive renewable and dispatchable power solutions in India.
Supporting this vision, Mr. Derek Shah, Senior Vice President & Head, L&T Energy – Green Manufacturing & Development, remarked that the integration of advanced energy storage with robust engineering capabilities is vital for accelerating green power generation. Meanwhile, Mr. Vivek Bhide, Regional President and Group Transformation Officer at John Cockerill, underlined the growing momentum in India’s sustainable energy efforts and expressed optimism about delivering reliable, low-carbon solutions in partnership with LTEGL.
